About the Department of Internal Medicine
The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 20 categorical residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) is a 220-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the inpatient training facility for this program. In September 2021, Dell Med’s IM program deployed a resident staffed team to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) Hospital. SMCA is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. SMCA also has a Level IV Trama Center.
About the Clinical Educator Position
The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional board certified or board eligible gastroenterologist at the Assistant Professor rank to join the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
The faculty will be responsible for the growth of a General Gastroenterology practice either at a site of our hospital partner, Ascension Seton, or at the future site of The University of Texas Medical Center.
Ascension Seton is the leading provider of healthcare services in Central Texas, serving an 11-county population of 2 million. The organization operates 5 major medical centers, 2 community hospitals, 3 rural hospitals, a mental health hospital, several rehab/medical centers for well patients, and 3 primary care clinics for the uninsured.
The position will comprise of inpatient gastroenterology consult service, outpatient clinics, and endoscopy. There are no scheduled outpatient clinics during inpatient weeks. The position includes protected time for academic activities and may include teaching residents. The hospital and clinics are located in Central Austin.
