Posting Date Posting Date: Sep 17, 2025, 5:00:00 AM Primary Location Far South Side-1744 West Pryor Avenue (Morgan Park High School) Benefits Handbook: Job Description CLASS TITLE: Teacher CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. Responsibilities Provide instructional planning, including written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program. Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils; evaluate pupils’ progress and maintain current and accurate records of pupils’ achievements. Implement instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology; use a range of instructional materials; participate in development and implementation of new teaching techniques. Provide bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils’ current work; apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level. Participate in programs to improve student attendance; promote anti-vandalism programs in the schools. Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds in accordance with the Uniform Discipline Code; maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts. Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept; ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships; initiate conferences with parents/guardians and administrators as appropriate. Communicate with parents/guardians and counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct; participate in in-service and professional staff meetings; utilize pertinent information and materials provided. Coordinate and attend class field trips; may work in extra-curricular and after-school activities; utilize community resources as appropriate. Qualifications Education and Experience: Successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. License Requirements: Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements; knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching; knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques; ability to modify instruction to meet student needs; ability to cooperate with the school faculty and administration to develop and implement an articulated program of instruction; ability to work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives. Skill: Application of contemporary teaching principles and practices; good oral and written communication; good interpersonal skills; sound and professional judgment. Physical Requirements: Light work: exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly to move objects; ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle/finger objects occasionally; talk and hear constantly; near visual acuity; occasional visual acuity.
