Job Description The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high-quality special education services that meet the needs of students with disabilities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position provides leadership in program implementation, oversees assessment and eligibility processes for privately placed students, works collaboratively with the Department of Accountability on divisionwide and statewide testing and collaborates with school teams, families, and outside agencies to support student success. Qualifications Education: Completion of a Master7s Degree required. Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education Postgraduate Professional license, with an endorsement in Special Education. Experience: At least 8 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher. Key Competencies Extensive knowledge of special education laws and regulations at the federal, state and local level; Knowledge of assessment tools, evaluation procedures, and testing regulations; Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills; Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data to inform instruction; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators, parents, and professionals; Extensive knowledge and skills in specially designed instruction; intervention programs and best instructional practices/strategies for students with disabilities. Essential Functions Ensure timely completion of evaluations and accurate documentation for eligibility determination for special education students who are privately placed by ACPS. Coordinate and facilitate state testing for students in private placement. Monitor implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students on a private placement caseload. Coordinate credit accommodations for students with disabilities at the secondary level. Facilitate the matriculation process for students with disabilities as they advance to the next educational level. Build strong partnerships with outside agencies, private providers, and community resources. Ensure compliance with IDEA and state regulations governing special education. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
