Job Description
Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 100 firm seeking an experienced Associate to join its Labor & Employment Department in the New Jersey office (hybrid schedule). This is a full-time opportunity offering sophisticated work in a collaborative, high-performing team, with access to top-tier legal resources and clients. Key Responsibilities
Represent and defend employers in litigation involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, failure to accommodate, and wrongful termination.
Advise clients on employment law compliance, including:
Leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, state/local laws)
Wage and hour issues
Performance management and workplace investigations
Discipline and discharge decisions
Draft and revise employee handbooks, personnel policies, employment agreements, and separation agreements.
Handle administrative charges before federal, state, and local agencies.
Work closely with partners and clients to develop case strategy and prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials.
Required:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
Licensed and in good standing with the New Jersey State Bar.
5–7 years of experience in employment law in a defense-side role.
Substantial litigation experience in federal and state courts.
Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters.
Preferred:
Admission to the New York Bar.
Experience advising Fortune 500 or multi-state employers.
Familiarity with federal and state wage and hour laws, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and other employment-related statutes.
Base salary range: $200,000–$235,000, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.
