Job Details
- The Specialty Pharmacist serves as the pharmacy liaison between the specialty pharmacy, specialty clinics, and patients.
- Responsible for maintaining competency in pediatric specialty drug therapy.
- Provide accurate and timely specialty pharmacy services for patients with specialty medication needs.
- Provide clinical practice/monitoring based on CHOP Policy and accrediting agency and regulatory guidelines for specialty medication dispensing and follow-up.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, patients, and caregivers to deliver safe and optimal patient care and outcomes.
- Refer patients for enrollment to other CHOP Pharmacy services when applicable.
- Complete all patient documentation timely and in compliance with CHOP policy.
- Apply knowledge of URAC and Joint Commission Accreditation Standards & State Pharmacy Regulations.
- Provide and receive accurate and timely communication to render interdisciplinary patient care.
- Provide drug information and education to clinic staff, patients, families, and specialty pharmacy staff regarding specialty pharmacy service line and pertinent disease states.
- Provide training and orientation to new specialty pharmacy staff regarding pharmacy services, prior authorizations, financial assistance programs, and other tasks.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure accurate preparation and distribution of pharmacy products.
- Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives.
- Manage enrollment and onboarding process for new specialty pharmacy patients.
- Initiate and manage prior authorization process for new specialty prescriptions.
- Assume oversight of specialty medication management within area(s) of specialty practice.
- Responsible for daily clinic operations including visits or calls with patients and serving as a drug information resource within specialty clinics.
- Answer clinical and drug access questions and provide feedback to management regarding opportunities and process improvements.
- Participate in the expansion of specialty and ambulatory pharmacy services as needed.
- Precept pharmacy students, interns, and/or residents as needed.
Job Requirements
- Active Pharmacist license with retail pharmacy experience required.
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required.
- One (1) to two (2) years of Specialty Pharmacy experience preferred.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, child, and adolescent.
Schedule Information
- Shift: 8 hours between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week).
Additional Details
- Duration: 3 months initially with possibility of extension and conversion to full-time employee.
